I’m happy to make some major announcements in my commercial real estate journey. In the beginning of the year, literally January 1, 2019, I was accepted into the Cultural Diversity Education Program of the CCIM Institute. I’ve previously blogged about the organization and its role in the industry. I completed my first course this month and look forward to being awarded “the pin” upon completing the other requisite courses. CCIM stands for Certified Commercial Investment Member. The CCIM lapel pin denotes that the wearer has completed advanced coursework in financial and market analysis, and demonstrated extensive experience in the commercial real estate industry. CCIM designees are recognized as leading experts in commercial investment real estate.
The Thomas Agency of Georgia, LLC was awarded an indefinite delivery indefinite quantity contract to provide Commercial and Residential Real Estate Broker disposition and acquisition services to a housing authority, via an RFP process. The authority is the largest housing authority in Georgia and one of the largest in the nation. It provides and facilitates affordable housing resources for nearly 22,000 low-income households comprised of approximately 50,000 people.
I was appointed the Vice Chairman of Quest Community Development as well as a board member of the newly formed QCDO Support Corporation. I’m getting first hand exposure to LIHTC and New Market Tax Credit development. I was recently invited to attend the first Beloved Benefit dinner at the Mercedes Benz Stadium where we dined on the field to benefit organization impacting the Westside of Atlanta. What an awesome event and experience.
Lastly, I was also appointed by the Honorable Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms to the In Rem Review Board of the City of Atlanta. Thanks to a referral from a fellow REAP Alumni, I was considered and appointed on March 26, 2019. The In Rem Review Board conducts public hearings for owners of property determined by the Office of Buildings to be unfit for human habitation or use. The Board also determines and notifies owners of problems in addition to suggesting corrective action.
The first quarter has been eventful and has propelled me forward for a great 2019. In addition to several real estate transactions in play, I began a temporary position as a Commercial Lease Analyst for a whole week and three days. I took the position so I could gain more insight into lease construction. I quickly realized that the constraints on my time and the inability to be as responsive to my clients as I normally am, would be an issue for me. The day I decided that I operated out of fear by taking the position and decided to give notice, I was let go. I guess I can say I was fired from a job I didn’t even want or really need. This was a first and I couldn’t stop laughing. I took it as a sign of God’s sense of humor. He allowed me to see what I didn’t really want and reminded me that He took great care of me the last 6 months and that I was operating out of unfounded fear. It reiterated how I enjoy serving the community, advocating and consummating deals…not just reading about them. 2019 2nd Quarter, Let’s Go!
