“We have an Unconstitutional Residential System…”

The title of this blogpost, are the words I heard uttered by Richard Rothstein, Author and research associate of the Economic Policy Institute and a fellow at the Thurgood Marshall Institute of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. The statement should not be a surprise to anyone but for some reason it is forgotten by most.

I purchased Mr. Rothstein’s book, The Color of Law (published by Liveright in May 2017), in which he “argues with exacting precision and fascinating insight how segregation in America—the incessant kind that continues to dog our major cities and has contributed to so much recent social strife—is the byproduct of explicit government policies at the local, state, and federal levels.”

I can’t wait to dive in, I will write a book review. Based on some of the theories he provided in his presentation, his research is one more reason why affordable housing is everyone’s problem and in essence, the government created the need and definitely has a role in resolving the pressing issue. This information reaffirmed my passion for advocacy and justice, especially in the real estate industry. Keep fighting the Good Fight!
