On February 9th, I joined Housing Georgia, a segment of Georgia Act, in advocating for affordable housing. The proposed legislation is for the Dedicated Revenue Sources for Local and Regional Housing Trust Funds.
This legislation would provide city and county governments the option to create a local Housing Trust Fund, tailored to meet their local needs, and provide new avenues for generating and dedicating revenue to fund it on an ongoing basis.
There is a bevy of information available regarding the Affordable Housing Gap, Cost Burdened Households, Homelessness, the Current Rental Market, Low Level of Federal Assistance, Preservation Needs and the like. All of the aforementioned are reasons to support affordable housing in addition to the fact that wages have stagnated.
What is an affordable home?
It is a home in which a family or individual can rent or buy without paying more than 30% of its income on housing and utility costs.
